Janki Devi Educational Welfare Society (JDEWS), is a Non-Government Organization named after Smt. Janki Devi, who was a teacher by profession. To commemorate her passion and zeal towards teaching, her son Mr. Sanjay Joshi, founded the society in 2003. Initially started with just a handful of members JDEWS has grown by leaps and bounds and today hundreds of people can relate themselves with JDEWS. The organization has reached out to the people, especially children and women living in both rural and urban areas through a range of interventions.

We at JDEWS believe that each and every individual in the society has different sets of skills and talent, and if this is moulded judiciously then that person can contribute immensely to the society. The Society is constantly working for the upliftment of the people through its various avenues namely, Education, Environment, Health and I.T services.

JDEWS is one of  the study centers affiliated to Uttarakhand Open University, providing Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Diploma and Certificate Courses. We also, provide vocational courses under National Institute of Open Schooling (N.I.O.S). The team of JDEWS consists of highly professional and immensely dedicated individuals who are highly skilled in their respective fields. We also provide personality development programs to various institutions and individuals to instill confidence in them, so that they can achieve their dreams. Some of our reputed clients include University of Petroleum and Energy Studies(UPES), Zee University,THDC and more.

The society is working actively under the guidance of WHO in its TB eradication programme in and around the villages of Dehradun and in time to come also in the interior or remote villages of Uttarakhand. Aware of the high cost and complications involved in Kidney ailments JDEWS has successfully had a tie up with SANYOG PHARMACUTICALS and will be having the facility of providing dialysis to five persons initially.

Thus the Society is also involved in health awareness programmes and health services for curable but fatal ailments like TB and RENAL FAILURES. Its commitment to contribute towards making the peoples of the nascent state Uttarakhand a secure and successful community by providing them good opportunities of education, health and self-sustainment has already taken wings and the determination, dedication and sincere selfless service of its members will enable JDEWS to take the lead and become a Society having to its credit reliable and quality programmes.

Not only does JDEWS create awareness through its programmes but also helps provide opportunities to the poor and illiterate people by giving them employment for the production of biodegradable products.

Fully aware of the potential of the peoples of UK. Its main thrust is thus on EDUCATION, ENVIRONMENT, I.T Services and HEALTH  through its projects undertaken on its own or in collaboration with other institutions for JDEWS believes that one does not have to be great to start but one has to start to be great. Determined to bring a change in the lives of the people of UK we have taken the next step for as has been said change starts when someone sees the next step and that’s what the people involved in JDEWS have seen and done.


(i)            Empowerment of the poor ,minorities, women and children in particular through organization, social action, education, asset creation and also through advanced level of teaching methods                                                                                                                                  

 (ii)         Promotion of people’s participation in development methods.

(ii)          Provision of Education, Health services necessary for the development and upliftment of the unprivileged children.
